When the bulk of the American troops were withdrawn from Iraq in the fall of 2010, some troops remained in the country to advise the Iraqi security forces. This period of assistance to the Iraqi army was known as Operation New Dawn and continued until the final withdrawal on 15 December 2011.
During Operation New Dawn there were 73 total deaths with twenty-two of them killed in action. There were 295 wounded.
