The Second World War was started on 01 September 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany. The United States of America entered the War on 07 December 1941 when Japan bombed the American fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
According to The Inquirer published at Bedford, there were over eight hundred names of men and women who served in the armed forces, forty of whom lost their lives during their deployment overseas. The names were recorded on an Honor Roll erected by the Bedford Rotary Club in the Public Square.
