The Cottage style reflected nostalgia for European architecture of the Medieval Ages. The style was popular from the 1920s through the 1930s.
The style was defined by very steep pitched roofs forming gables and cross gables. In the absence of porches, entry was through arched doors in miniature gable structures mimicking the steep roof lines. Casement windows bore small panes, sometimes set at a diagonal.
Cottage houses tended to be overall small, giving them the description of 'cozy.'
The Cottage style is exemplified by the private dwelling located at 309 E. Main Street in Everett Borough.
