The Art Deco style was popular from circa 1925 to circa 1940, with the primary identifying features of geometric, abstract and streamlined designs, bold color schemes and arches (over doors, windows, etc.).
The Art Deco style is also associated with the Art Moderne style that was popular into the 1950s. Art Moderne was similar to Art Deco in that it emphasized rectilinear forms, low relief decorative elements and primarily geometric ornamentation.
The Art Deco style is exemplified by the Dunkles Gulf Service Station at E. Pitt Street in Bedford Borough.
