Building Styles in Bedford County

Victorian

The Victorian style was popular from circa 1840 to circa 1910, and included the previously noted Gothic Revival and Italianate styles along with styles named Swiss Cottage, Queen Anne, Stick and Exotic Eclectic.

The primary identifying features of the pure Victorian style included complex and intersecting gable and/or mansard style roofs, turrets and towers, off-center dormers, multiple porches or wrap-around veranda-style porches, tall narrow, often paired windows and bay windows, and lots of decorative 'gingerbread' trim on gable rooflines and porches.

The Victorian style is exemplified by the (unnamed) house located at 131 E. Penn Street in Bedford Borough.

The 'Queen Anne' Victorian style is exemplified by the private dwelling at 199 N. Spring Street, on the southwest corner of the intersection of 2nd and Spring Streets in Everett Borough.
